What we do

Zua is a non-profit organization that seeks to limit agricultural risk for low-income female farmers in sub-Saharan Africa by providing them with affordable microinsurance. By mitigating agricultural risks and facilitating access to a wide range of financial services, Zua empowers farmers to increase their productivity, break the cycle of poverty and ultimately improve their quality of life and that of their communities.

Zua is the first online platform that directly connects insurers (aka you) and low-income farmers seeking to mitigate weather risks through microinsurance

Reaching the most vulnerable

​Our policies are underwritten through peer-to-peer financing instead of for-profit financial institutions, enabling us to offer low premiums and reach the world's poorest and most vulnerable

Providing further access

Microinsurance addresses a problem bigger than access to capital. For example, by decreasing the risk of a farmer through microinsurane they are likely to gain greater access to credit

Our story

We’re a small team of recent university graduates passionate about economic development. Our team is made up of individuals with diverse backgrounds, with experience in social entrepreneurship, investment banking, insurance, economics, international development, and data science. We are excited about using emerging technologies in microfinance to disrupt the cycle of poverty. By providing affordable microinsurance to some of the world’s poorest populations, we hope to equip them with the tools they need to make life-improving investments in themselves and their families.
